Hi Ron: it's a bit early for me to state with certainty (I need to get back out there and scout, but I'm currently tied up with office workshops). Here are two sources for information:

http://travel.latimes.com/articles/la-tr-anza1-2009mar01
http://www.calphoto.com/wflower.htm

I hope this helps. Anza-Borrego should be a 'for sure' this year. Best of luck to you!

Sounds good!

Unfortunately, the dust is starting to blow down here, and judging from the forecast: http://tinyurl.com/35ov94 it is only going to get worse - gusts to 50 by Saturday! I hope they are wrong.

Hey Ron: that's a quite logical extension, and one I would have recommended had I actually driven it this spring and could detail my first-hand experience :)

I might be seeing you in Borrego Springs in a few days! Thanks.

Sounds very impressive Michael. I've been kicking myself for not going up to Amboy two weeks ago when I went to JTNP. :-(

Hey Michael,

Great informative post. This year is really special, it is a must see - and smell!

How about a suggestion for day two to your tour? I would suggest continuing across I 10 down through Box Canyon toward Mecca - great verbena in places.

Then continue down South on 86, hang a right on S22 into Borrego Springs. Turn right on Henderson Canyon Road for some wonderful fields of Desert Gold. Hang another right on Digiorgio Road for some more outstanding fields of wildflowers.

To finish the trip, head up over the mountains to Lake Hodges and for the poppy fields along the Del Dios Highway.

Cheers,

Ron
